If you wish to be a candidate and respond to board-position listings, you must first create a Board Connections profile for yourself. This profile stores information about you that Agencies can use to determine if you are a good match for their board positions. If you attempt to inquire about a board position listing without this profile, you will be prompted to create it before you can proceed.
The profile builder will ask you to supply three main sets of information about yourself: the languages you are comfortable with and the skills and interests you have; your work experience, which you can provide either by uploading a résumé or input using a Web form; and your education experience. You may also be prompted to complete the BoardMatch Interview, which is a survey or extra set of questions about you Administrators can tack onto the end of the profile-builder for additional tracking and qualification purposes.
To create your Board Connections profile:
Log in to your volunteer account (see Logging in to Your Volunteer Account for instructions, if needed).
When your volunteer account is displayed, click the Your Account link at the top of the page.
On the Account Manager page, in the Your Board Connections Profile section, click the Manage your Board Connections profile link.
On the Your Board Connections profile page, in the Languages/Skills section, click the Update languages/skills link.
On the Please
select relevant categories page, supply the requested information
and click Save and Continue. Note
that fields marked with an asterisk () are required.
On the next page of the profile-builder, click on one of the two links offered for providing your work experience. The Upload your resume link gives you the option of uploading an existing résumé document you have in a Word, PDF, plain text, HTML, or ZIP file (with a .zip or .gz extension) format. Note that the uploaded résumé file must be 256 KB or smaller. Search for the résumé file using the Browse . . . button, and then when returned to the Upload your resume page, click the Upload resume button. The Create your Board Connections profile online link allows you to provide your work experience using a Web form. Fill out the form and click Save (you have the option of entering more than one work-experience entry).
If prompted, provide information on your educational experience using the Web form provided and click Save (you have the option of entering more than one education-experience entry).
If prompted, provide the information requested in the BoardMatch Interview (an additional set of questions Administrators can add) and click Save.
VS will save your profile, which you can modify later.
