Inquiring About a Volunteer Opportunity

Once you have found an opportunity that interests you, your next step is to contact the Agency that posted it. This outreach on your part is called an inquiry in VS, and can be made by phone or email (Agencies may prefer one or the other). Once the Agency receives your inquiry, one of its staff members will get in touch with you to discuss the opportunity further and complete the match.

You do not have to have to be registered with VS in order to make an inquiry; however, if you do have a volunteer account, VS can track all of your inquiries on your myHome page so that you can monitor them.

To submit an inquiry on an opportunity:

  1. If the opportunity is not already displayed on your screen, find it in VS (see Introduction to Searching for Opportunities for help on searching for opportunities).

  2. Display the full text of the volunteer opportunity. If the opportunity is displayed in summary format (e.g., in listings of opportunity search results or multiple opportunities posted by the same Agency), click the name of the opportunity or the more link at the end of the summary to display the full listing.

  3. Find the link in the opportunity listing labeled I’m interested in this opportunity and click it.

  4. Fill in the information requested in the Web form.

  5. Enter the validation code displayed in the image at the bottom of the form in the Please enter the letters or numbers on the right to continue field.

  6. Click Send email message.

Note that you will also have the option to call or email the Agency staff person assigned to the opportunity listing directly, although you may have to have and be logged into a volunteer account to do so.
